My First Trip To New York In The Summer

A picture of New York City

Hi there! It’s been a while. I hope you missed reading my blog as much as I missed writing to you! I hope you’re hanging in there. My summer break has finally come to an end and the Fall semester has begun. I explored and took big steps during the summer, one of which was releasing my first E-book. I also took a trip to New York City,  an experience that I would share in this blog post.

New York is one of the popular cities in the United States, popularly known as the city that never sleeps. It was a memorable experience filled with fun, joy & love. Although this was was my third time in New York, it was my first time visiting during the summer.

A Reflection Point

First, let’s talk about John F. Kennedy (JFK) airport!

This airport reminded me of Lagos and the vibe that comes with it. The song “This summer I am going to the streets” &  “we outchea in the streets, lol” was on constant repeat in my head.

After arrival, the following days were majorly spent with family. I always try to be present and live in the moment; this trip was no different. In spending time with family, different moments were special to me but let me highlight this particular moment where I was deep in thoughts.

I went along with my cousin for her swimming lessons, and as little, as she was, she trusted the swimming instructor to take her through the water.

This reminded me of trusting God; if a little girl who is less than 2 years old can trust a swimming instructor with her life, why do we find it hard sometimes to trust God with our heart desires and challenges? Proverbs 3:5-6 states, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” I still think of this moment sometimes; I believe it’s a sign for me to worry less and trust God more. You should do the same too.

The City, Manhattan, New York

Anyways, did you really go to New York if you didn’t visit Manhattan? The heart and city of New York. The best of buildings and beautiful structures are present in Manhattan.

While in the city, I visited a restaurant & lounge called “Lagos in NYC.” It was an unforgettable experience. I tasted SUYA for the first time this year! (In case you’re not Nigerian and you’re reading this, Suya is a famous beef roasted under high heat, more like a roadside snack) The suya was super friendly 8/10; I would recommend it. Also, I ordered small chops, which I would give 3/10; I think the restaurant needs to change the name; why would Akara (Bean Cake) be in small chops? It’s a NO from me, though. Apart from that, the music, ambiance, and customer service were amazing, and spending it with my family made it more special.

Long Island Beach, New York

Long Island Beach, New York

I visited a beach in Long Island, New York; it was amazing and mood-lifting.  One thing I love the most is admiring nature in its purest form. I did this with the soothing beach breeze and calming noise of the water while watching the birds and seashells wander in the sand. It was a pleasant experience.

In my summer plans, one of the places I intended to visit was Central Park, but unfortunately, plans changed, and I had to strike it out of my list. New York is a place I will love to visit again. I don’t think I can get tired of the city.  I LOVE New York; it feels like home.

In comparison to my first visit to New York in 2018, when I spent Christmas and New Year holidays, I would say, I prefer being in the city during summer because of the friendly weather. However, I visited more places such as World Trade Centre and Time Square.

I had a fantastic summer break, and this trip to New York is definitely one of my memorable highlights.
