How Your Circle of Friends Influence Who You Are

How Your Friends Influence Who You Are

At the current stage, I am in my life, I have seen many people achieve success. If there is one thing I have observed, these high achievers have great friends who are their major support system that push them to get better at what they do. Let’s bring this home a little bit. Every time you have achieved success or even gone through a difficult time, did you have any major person cheering you on or even supporting you every step of the way? If I am to answer this question, I will say yes, which has helped me get better by the day.

I have seen many people live by the belief of how smart and talented they are and how that is the most important ingredient in their success. Measuring by my little wins, I have realized that success goes beyond what you are; this may be in terms of smartness, intelligence, greater grades, having the best job — these are great things really, but I believe it’s more about the people you surround yourself with.

A few days back, I wondered if I would be where I am today without my support system; the answer is NO. I have had my high and low moments. They were days I just wanted to give up, and I felt nothing good about life. Every time I get to this point, I speak to my close friends or family — my support system, I explain what I am going through, and they rescue me from thinking into depression. Can you relate to this?

Here are some questions you should reflect on;

– Who are the people you surround yourself with?

– Do they motivate you?

– Do they help you grow?

– What kind of energy do they give you? Pessimists, bad vibes?

In answering these questions, you will expose your mind to think about the people you currently have in your circle. You want to be successful; you need to surround yourself with successful people; you want to be rich, surround yourself with rich people, be smart, surround yourself with smart people, and the list goes on.

Jim Rohn says: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

Globalization has taken us to the point where we don’t have to seek too much to find people with our matching energy. Talk about inspiration, lifestyle, fashion, positive energy. It’s all over the media, countless influencers or individuals have been able to portray each of these traits, and these are people we can draw strength from.

Robin Sharma says, “Associate only with positive, focused people who you can learn from and who will not drain your valuable energy with uninspiring attitudes. By developing relationships with those committed to constant improvement and the pursuit of the best that life has to offer, you will have plenty of company on your path to the top of whatever mountain you seek to climb.”

Sometimes, it’s hard for you to believe in yourself. You want to give up and not show up. This is the time to speak to your support system. Your circle has a lot of influence; it’s the support you get and look up to for guidance. They want to see you grow and flourish, purely pushing you to do better and be a star.

This piece is a reminder that your circle/support system greatly influences your wins and how you climb the ladder of success.

To have a great circle, you can follow people that inspire you; you can subscribe to newsletters that remind you of your worth. You can also read books and blogs and follow people that add value. Also, never see this as a one-way street; it’s a two-way street; you also have something to give.

After reading this article, please take this action step. Assess everyone in your circle and look at how they have been of benefit to you, and you have been of benefit to them. Reach out to them and show appreciation; if you don’t have the right circle, you need to go back to the drawing board.

Understand that having the right backbone and support system has a major role in the direction you go. But most importantly, have God in your corner. He is the support system you never see. He listens and is ready to support you every step of the way.
