School Is The Real Escape

School Is The Real Escape

Sometimes in life, we find ourselves anxious and worried about the future, where we want to be, and where we are heading to. In the end, we realize that we were just disturbing our minds and there was really no need for worrying that much. I would share one of my experiences in this article.

I always thought it was gonna be so easy after university. I couldn’t wait to leave, I was eager and anxious to get into the real world. I could remember wanting to get to final year as soon as possible, do my project and enjoy myself on convocation day. I am not going to lie, I always looked forward to my convocation. Because I knew after that, I was going to be independent, at least in most areas of my life. This reminds me of one of my faves on Instagram “Garyvee” who says the more money you make for yourself the more decisions you would be able to take without approval from your parents.

Honestly, I was tired of asking my parents and siblings for money and really wanted to start earning money as they did. The journey was not easy, I would cry(not literally..lol) every morning waking up to go to class, counting the years I have left in school and waiting for all these to be over. I was anxious, but with all of this, one of my core standards was “know what you’re in school for”.

My school- the University of Lagos, made everything hard! I mean, a federal university in Nigeria is always a struggle. But regardless I put in all my efforts in my studies, I was a library babe ( this is a story for another day).

It’s funny how I was supposed to be enjoying this stage of free money, fewer worries, and fewer responsibilities, but no! I was always thinking of how I could make money and have the liberty to do whatever I wanted. Nobody warned me.

After I came out of school, I started asking myself why I was always anxious to leave school, anxious to start working, anxious to stop taking money from my parents. It was at that moment I learned one of my biggest lessons: whatever stage you are in life, being anxious won’t solve anything and is very unnecessary (I still tell myself this every day). Enjoying each stage of your life is one of the best things that can happen to you. There would be hard times, no doubt, but there is one passage in the bible I hold on to dearly which says, “do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6).

So really, what are you anxious about? take a pause, be grateful for where you are and aspire to be in a higher place but never be anxious for anything.

I can’t exactly say I regret not enjoying that period of my life. I just feel like I could have enjoyed it better and worried less. It’s quite sad because now I work my ass off for everything I get and have to make hard decisions on my own. Sometimes I make mistakes doing this, but oh well! That’s the reality of things.

If you’re still in school, or whatever stage you are in life, it may be hard or easy, but learn each stage, enjoy each stage and don’t be anxious for anything. Being anxious and worried leads to nowhere but with faith, you should live through life. Trust me, I try to take the advice I give.
